SdM are so fortunate to have so many gorgeous Lady Members - and they are always keen to line up for a photo!
Thursday 13th November 2014 saw the inauguration of a new trophy at SdM.
Played by our past Captains it’s a trophy we hope will become something they will look forward to entering and hopefully winning! Obviously as the years pass it will become slightly more populated, this first year only having 5 participants plus guest, vice captain Ray Groves, who was representing the Captain who is away.
Our initial winner was George Cook who’s score will remain a secret to protect all other contestants from severe embarrassment!

Past Captain Steve Edwards recorded his first ever hole in one at the 14th. Not thinking he'd hit enough club there wasn't much excitement but playing partner Bill Goodwin was heard to say "Eh, I think it might be in hole" As the green was approached there were only two balls in sight and both Bill and Captain Gary Edwards knew they were on the green so it was with some trepidation Steve went towards the pin, peered into the cup to see a Calloway 2 staring back at him.
The first round of the Fermon Trophy - the Betterball Stableford competition between SDM, Carvoeiro G&CC, Alto and Vila Sol - was played at Alto on Monday 27th October. The course was not in the best condition with the slow and bumpy greens causing particular problems. However Vila Sol made light of the conditions with their five scoring pairs amassing an excellent 191 points. The other three clubs were all very closely matched with Alto returning 184 points, SDM 183 and Carvoeiro 182.
The second round of the Fermon Trophy took place at Gramacho on Monday 10th November. Despite returning a higher team score than that achieved at Alto in the first round we still only managed to record third place on the day. Lynn Cook and Warren Tennant were the best pairing from SDM scoring an excellent 43 points and they were closely followed by Sandy Rumfitt and Richard Whitely with 42 points. Other SDM scores were: Ray & Eileen Groves (36), Chris Nickels & Steve Morgan (36), Stuart Deans & Malcolm Cooke (35) and Peter & Marja Chapman (32)
Last Thursday saw the SDM Ladies compete for the Gloria Carr Trophy .
This is the third year of the competition.
The winner this year by a clear margin was Sandy Rumfitt with a fantastic score or 43 points.
followed by Lesley Cowell and Ingrid Helsen both with 35 points.
The guest prize was won by Gillian Duplessis 34 points
Twenty six ladies enjoyed the competition which was followed by a light lunch.
Sandy will now play off her new handicap of 22.5 after her 4 shots cut.
