Serra de Monchique Golf Club was formed in 2005, at Morgado de Reguengo when the regular players were invited to form a club. There were 30 founder members and the first General Meeting of the membership was held on 8th November 2005.
The club membership developed, playing at Morgado do Reguengo course for the whole of 2006. John Hawker was the first Captain.
At the end of 2006 the club moved to Silves Course, which had just opened. Mark Ellerton was appointed Captain for 2007.
Pestana's very favourable terms of green fee arrangements led to an substantial increase in membership in 2008.
Many Northern European countries are represented, including a number of Portuguese members.
The club plays competitions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tuesdays are for singles competitions either as Monthly medal or Stableford Qualifier. On Thursdays some members play at Silves in a format of their own choice, but many members elect to play on the other courses within the Pestana group. On Saturdays there is a wide variety of game formats, normally as team competitions as pairs or teams of four players. There are occasional qualifying competitions on Saturdays to suit our members who are in full time employment. Our eventlist will show these.
We have many social events organised by our Social Secretary. These are held in a variety of locations and are often theme nights. Guests are most welcome at all our functions.
The Club holds Charity events from time to time. The beneficiaries are usually local charities like the Bombeiros, Madrugada, or a nearby Children's home.

Principal Changes Introduced into the 2012 Code:
Rules of Golf
Definitions
Addressing the Ball
The Definition is amended so that a player has addressed the ball simply by grounding his club immediately in front of or behind the ball, regardless of whether or not he has taken his stance. Therefore, the Rules generally no longer provide for a player addressing the ball in a hazard. (See also related change to Rule 18-2b)

Who wants more consistency?
The Number 1 request I hear
on the lesson tee is without a doubt, “I want to be more
consistent”. After asking a few more questions, what this
usually means is “I want to strike the ball more
consistently”, or “I want to stop topping the odd
shot, and hitting the ball heavy (fat)”.
The best way to improve your ball striking is to focus on the location
of your weight during the swing. If your weight is too far back
(towards the right foot for a right handed golfer), then the
“low-point” of your swing will be behind the ball -
resulting in fat shots, thin shots, and topped shots (you
didn’t lift your head, I promise!).
